“Going Home” was taken by Pat Little, who has photographed over 250 Penn State games. Pat spent a great deal of time interacting with Joe Paterno one on one and got to know the man behind the legend.
Going Home… was captured by Pat Little on October 4, 2010 after one of Joe’s weekly press conferences. Over a ten year stretch of time, Pat shared a weekly walk with Joe after these events. They would shoot the breeze with mostly small talk, but serious at other times. Pat made it his responsibility to get him out of the stadium and on the road safely. Pat knew the time was coming when Joe would retire and he wanted a great image to represent that moment. Pat saw this image a few times and tried to shoot it, but it just wasn’t right. On this day, at this time… it was right.
