    The Palmer Museum of Art was opened on Sunday October 7, 1972. The current face of the Palmer is from a renovation that took place in 1993.     The Elms are a part of the Penn State Tradition. Penn State President George Atherton first planted Elm trees on the Penn State Campus in the 1890’s. In 1920 more Elm trees were planted on the campus and they helped to create the landscape that we now all know know and love. The Elms have provided beauty and peace to generations of Penn State students.

Old Main as we now know it sits on the original footprint of “The Main Building”. Old Main was rebuilt in 1930 using some of the original limestone.

    The Alumni Gardens are located at the Hintz Alumni Center.  It’s includes a series of gardens which offer pleasant, peaceful spots for reflection and relaxation. The one-acre Alumni Gardens were dedicated in 2006 and funded entirely by private donations and a gift from the Alumni Association. The Alumni Gardens comprise five separate and distinct areas — the Obelisk Garden, Rainbow Garden, Secret Garden, University House Terrace Garden and the Water Garden.     The original Old Main — Penn State’s first academic and administrative building — was completed in 1863. A fire partially destroyed the roof in 1892, which resulted in remodeling the upper floor and the bell tower. Age and heavy use took their toll, and the building was torn down in 1929.     Often mistaken for the Class of 1915’s sundial, which is actually located on the lawn, the armillary sphere on the terrace of Old Main is a gift from the Class of 1966. The sphere is mounted on the back of a turtle as a depiction of the Greek myth about Atlas, the god that held the earth, who would place the world on the back of a turtle when he grew tired.
