College Avenue – R. Greenleaf $75.00 – $375.00Select options
Football, Fans and Fall…Downtown State College, where memories are made and traditions are kept. “College Avenue” is a limited edition print by Richard Greenleaf. Image size measures 12 x 17 with an edition size of 900. The framed image measures 18″ x 25″. A ’63 Penn State graduate with a degree in architecture, Richard was a full-time architect and spent most of his spare time painting in his home-studio.

The original stone pillars were purchased from the St. Louis expedition in 1904. In 1916 the graduating class expanded the pillars and in 1930 the iron grill was added. The gates act as a corridor between campus and downtown. They symbolize the transition from college life to the “real world”.

The Penn State Drum Major is perhaps best known for the pre-game flip that was created by Drum Major/gymnast Edwin L. Anderson for the 1942 season. Currently, the Drum Major Flip occurs twice under the current Blue Band pre-game drill. Blue Band Drum Majors have been ‘flipping’ for Penn State since 1971. In 1978 the flip evolved from a back flip to the current forward flip. The number of drum major flips in the Blue Band pre-game has varied from 1 to 3 (with the current number being 2). The Elms are a part of the Penn State Tradition. Penn State President George Atherton first planted Elm Trees on the Penn State Campus in the 1890’s. In 1920 more Elm Trees were planted on the campus and they helped to create the landscape that we now all know and love. The Elms have provided beauty and peace to generations of Penn State students. The original Old Main — Penn State’s first academic and administrative building — was completed in 1863. A fire partially destroyed the roof in 1892, which resulted in remodeling the upper floor and the bell tower. Age and heavy use took their toll, and the building was torn down in 1929. “Face Off” shows the first moments of the PSU vs. Army game on October 11, 2013. This inaugural match at Pegula Ice Arena was the first of many of what fans hope to be many wins for PSU.
