In fact there are several techniques that can be used to get unique sounds out of the trumpet. These include growling – where the trumpeter hums while playing a note, glissando – where the trumpeter depresses the valve halfway, and double tonguing – where the player articulates using the syllables ta-ka, ta-ka, ta-ka.
