The Elms are a part of the Penn State Tradition. Penn State President George Atherton first planted Elm trees on the Penn State Campus in the 1890’s. In 1920 more Elm trees were planted on the campus and they helped to create the landscape that we now all know know and love. Pattee Library is named after Fred Lewis Pattee, he is considered to be the first professor of American Literature and the author of the Penn State Alma Mater. Pattee is one of fourteen University Libraries at the University Park Campus between them they hold 5.4 million books. Our NEW image of Pattee shows a side view of the front entrance complete with flower pots sculpted to look like Grecian urns.
